Ok here goes, why are some pastashio nuts are stained red?

Now is this a set up to a punch line or legitimate trivia question? Which trivia wise a lot of them were dyed red or green to hide imperfections from manufacturing processes. Plus it made them appear more "exquisite".

Good answers, I was thinking so it was easy to see who had been touching the nuts. I have a bit of a weakness for pastashios and it's a damn shame they mostly come from Iran.

I only eat the ones from Southeastern Turkey, the Iranian one's I hear are tainted with camel dung....
