Hi guys. Long time no see. Betsy's been good to me and I ran out of money for modding her so I haven't been to the forums in a long time.
You'll soon be kicking me out. Betsy's going up for sale because sometime next week I'll be going to TX to pick up my 2010 Challenger R/T
I need to now if anyone has done an out of state purchase with a private owner and what the heck did you do about a tag for the vehicle on the way home. I've contacted my local tag office, the state office, the local office in TX where the sale will happen, a dealership there and my local dealership and NOBODY is giving me the same story.
I won't have the title as there is a lien holder and I still have my truck so I can't put my tag on it.
Anyone been through the same thing and have any advice?

Hi Lori...you don't have to be a stranger ya know.
You shouldn't have any problems with the plates. When you get it home you should be able to get the title transferred. Most stated give you 30 days. The seller has to give you some kind of title.
What county/city are you going to pick it up in? The title transfer will have to be notarized. Have it done at the courthouse. Who ever the lien holder is might be able to help you too.

That's the problem. The seller doesn't have the title. It's not going to be released until he pays it off with the funds he's getting from me. Most I will have with me is a bill of sale, verification of odometer, etc.
It's in McHenry Tx. I can't take my truck plate with me... I'm just worried about getting if from Tx to here and not getting stopped along the way. KS won't get me a 30 day tag on a vehicle that's currently registered in TX. Texas... one office told me he could leave his tag on it... that sounds hokey. Texas then told me I could print out a 5 day permit but I don't know if that's going to be acceptable in Oklahoma and KS on the way home if I get pulled over. I mean, I'll try not, but you know... It's already got Super 40's on it, a functional scoop hood and CAI.. I'll have to have a little fun

 Fine Lori, thanks for asking.
He should have a copy of the title showing the lien holder. That's what Texas does.
You'll be just south of Morris and Kima..15 minutes. A little over an hour from us. Let us know when you'll be here.
If it weren't Friday I could go to the courthouse and find out for you. I know everyone in the Tax office. That's who handles registration in Texas. The Police Chief is a good friend of mine too. But I can't get you much in the way of answers until Monday.

I haven't figured out yet when I'm going. I close on the loan Monday. Looked at flying, looked at renting a car to get down there, but Graham isn't anywhere near where I could return a rental car and it's a little too far from Dallas to fly in there and try to get to him. One thing at a time, I guess. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it :-)

Thank you, Mr. Hemi! No swapping going on. I'm not putting the truck up for sale until I have that Challenger safe and sound at home.
Good to see ya!
