Well we all have them and today must have been my turn. Fist thing this morning my neighbor called and told me that one of "her" cows was in trouble. Sure enough she was trying to give birth and the calf was in the wrong position. After a couple of hours of really nasty work we managed to get her into the corral and "re-position" the calf and pull it out..with the help of a come-along. Talk about nasty work..you don't even want to know how deep your arm can go into a cow.
Finished that and had to hurry to make a doctors appointment a little over an hours drive away. Got through that with out any trouble but it wasn't even 2PM yet. Since today was slated to be one of the first days over 90° I decided to close up the house and turn the A/C on. Humidity was through the roof. When I got home the A/C was running but it was 86° inside. Called a repairman around 5PM and he said he would be out in a little while. At 8:40PM he still hadn't shown up or called. It was sultry and my day hadn't gotten any better so Mary and I went to town to make a quick stop and get a Blizzard. About 6 miles from home a little spike buck decided he liked my truck and managed to head on me at 60mph. We just got home and it's after 10PM. Still no A/C and he may show up tomorrow afternoon....forecast temperatures are for the mid to upper 90's all week. I may go cry myself to sleep outside where it's not quite as hot...after I fill out all the accident paper work so I can go see the insurance company in the morning. Left wheel is rubbing some, bumper is bent all to h#!!, but we didn't get hurt so it could be a lot worse.
Holy cow! I mean dear me. No, that isn't cool. That was one heck of a day Doug. Glad you guys are okay and it's things that can be repaired. Eventually:facepalm:.
Sorry Doug, I've been in that same "position" with the cow...and I do know how far an arm can go, we had to enlist the help of a john deere and some tow chain with that calf! Hope everything is well and your days get better! Wife and I say bad things come in three's, so with that said, you should probably be good for a while!
Thanks Adam but I think I need to stick around here. Need to check on the calf and get my "poop in a group" and head to the body shop and insurance company this morning so I can come back home and sweat out the A/C repairman getting here.
Like everything else, "This too shall pass". Just hope no one gives me a hassle today.
Sometimes we are just tested. Sounds like this was your day for it. I pray that today will be a better day for you. Been there too many times not to feel for you.
Yikes Doug - I feel your need to stay cool within the confines of your livable space. Been there...Several times AZ style. Misery and high humidity (60+) don't mix at all. :icon_peace:
May this day and your future be smooth as a brand new highway! :thumb:
Thanks everyone! The Sheriff's deputy took the deer...probably to feed the needy...or not. I didn't want to clean one after the day I had day I had had anyway. Insurance company doesn't seem to be going to give me issues. Repair shop ordered the bumper this morning and it should be in tomorrow morning. The part between the bumper and fenders will need to be repainted and possibly a headlight replaced. Wont know until they get the bumper off. Now if the A/C man shows up.......
I always keep a small window unit handy just incase of stuff like that. put in your living room and close off the rest of the house. hope it gets fixed soon
Just talked to the repairman... Last night he said around 2 and it's 2:30. He was about 80 miles away headed this way. Maybe we'll have some A/C before bedtime....maybe.
Doug, there are stand-alone AC units (basically a window-unit on wheels) that can cool a room pretty quickly. We have one on standby in one of our LAN rooms at work. If the main unit goes out (and it has - twice in the past two months), this little guy can still cool the room even with 1/2 of the Agency's VoIP equipment in there.
Well the repair guy finally made it here. No freon in the system. Two of the copper lines had rubbed together and wore a hole in both of them. He didn't have a vacuum pump so he couldn't fix anything. One of his crews had his pump and I didn't want him coming back and working on it until 11 tonight. He's supposed to be back in the morning...before noon to purge the system, repair the leaks and charge everything back up...a little less than $500.
He had been to see a doctor is why he was so far out of the area and also why his crew had his vacuum pump. Not making excuses for him but I'll give him another chance. At least he found the problem. We'll see.....
If you as me if a repair guy don't have the equipment on the truck he is not going to touch my ac. another guy has his pump??? why don't they all have a pump that's part of being a ac repair man. they don't cost that much. if he cant buy a pump he is in the wrong business.
...I've only been offsite for a couple of days and it sounds like someone from the gov'mint :banghead: has come to bless you with their 'help'.

Hope things are getting sorted out and fixed today :thumb:.
I had no intention of killing Bambi. He just couldn't cope any more and committed suicide.
The added cost to the A/C repair was instead of 10 pounds of freon it took almost 16. Ouch! Condenser is at one end of the house and the compressor is at the other. I didn't like where the compressor was and had it moved 10 years ago. Little did I know.....
Good news is the truck goes into the shop next Monday and I get it back on Tuesday.
