I was talking to Dave (AlbertaHemi) today and the UPS guy arrived with my new toy. With a about 75 trees and over 3,000 of fence to keep trimmed, not counting the ward work I need an easier way. It's new on the market but they had $200 off and free shipping, plus 6 month trial thru June 30th.. Don't like it send it back..
I just had to give it a shot. Anyone want to come help?
They (DR Power) make it in 3 different models.. I got the smaller one.
I'm definitely gonna have to do a far away G2G one day:thumb:
But first I'll need to get my tranny tuned, and a/c finished up before I go. There's no way my wife and son will go unless those are completed.
It does get hot in the summer time but the rest of the year it's actually pretty nice. We don't get covered with a lot of snow and up here we don't get hurricanes....just the odd tornado. If anyone is going to come to Texas be sure to let us know. It's a good excuse for a GTG. There is so much to see here...from history, to beauty, lush forest to arid desert. Outside of the cities the people are friendly. We wave at total strangers and stop to help someone in need.

Out here in the sticks there is about as wide a range as you could find anywhere. From simple farm houses to multi-million dollar lake homes. There are also several developments that offer 1 or more acres to build what ever you want. Problem is we are 20 miles from just about everything. Our town has two banks, two grocery stores, 6 or 7 places to eat and a few small shops or farm supply stores. It's 23 to 28 miles in all 4 directions to a town large enough for a Wal-Ma.rt of other shopping. Just the way I like it...no traffic and few idiots....well except for me.
I registered with the VA, had a physical exam, and a year later they didn't know who I am. I like it that way now as they are setup to try to cause Veterans to loose their rights. I have been looking at Longview, Waskom, Kilgore, and Hallsville as some of the locations, mainly because they are in range of Barksdale AFB.
It isn't that far to Shreveport, Louisiana from Longview or Kilgore and I've been told there is a big VA there. I lost my VA benefits when I stopped using them. Wife had good insurance and I didn't like having to drive to Dallas. They never mentioned that I could loose them if I didn't use them...thanks to congress. Now they say we make to much money. BS...maybe when my wife retires next year I'll be able to get them back. They way things look I would rather have her working, with good insurance than me get my benefits back. I might die waiting on the slow suckers.
What is the big Air Force base outside of Shreveport? Can't remember %^&.
I am also looking at some of the small towns/cities in Louisiana. I have a while to choose, my last divorce took 3 years, so I have time to search. Doing this mostly by internet. The ones that look interesting, I plan to visit to see how they feel. I don't want to move and then find the place is a real disappointment.
There are a lot of things to check before making that kind of big decision. The look and feel of a place mean a lot for our comfort, but taxes are a big issue. Be sure to check where ever you look to see if they have a "Personal Property Tax". Texas doesn't not but some cities do. Some states have a state income tax. Texas doesn't. I'm sure each state is different. Also check the tax rate for the places your really interested in. A call to the local Appraisal District can give you all the information you will need....for state, county, city and most important school district. School taxes are some times the highest tax you'll encounter.
When George (D500) got ready to leave New York he did a search on cost of living and found that eastern Tennessee has some of the cheapest living expenses. Thanks in part to the Tennessee Valley Authority...they provide cheaper water and electricity than anywhere in the country. Winters get a little cold for me but for a guy from New York they are nothing. If there is anything I can do for either of you to assist in your search just let me know.
I live in one or those states that most have to pay state income tax. Since I retired out of the military, I no longer have to pay it. I also get to pay double the tax for my tags, because I live in the city limits. My 07' Harley runs almost $200.00 per year, and my truck is $185.00 this year.
