Need Help fast with 2003 rc sb hemi 4x4

Well all has been well up to this point but when they go down they go down in flames. I shut my truck off at a job site and tried to restart it shorty after and it started then bumbled down and stalled. I cranked it a few more times and it just would not stay running . Finally after a 5 minute wait it started and ran fine. It continues to do this, I ran the self check and the codes I got were p0581 and p0593 neither of which I can find on any of the code lists. Has anyone had this problem. If so what was the solution. The truck has 90,000 miles on it.

It may be an issue with the Sentry key. The key will still start the engine, but within a few seconds, it will die.
I got a hit on Google for "ram p0581" and the first thread talks about the sentry key errors.

If you have an alternate/spare key, you may give it a try.

Good luck.

Im not sure the 2003 model (or mine at least) has the sentry key. And why would it start and run fine with the same key without even removing it from the ignition. , Thanks for your help though and ill look further into it.

Any one else wanna take a shot at it. I personally thing its a fuel pump issue. But then again once it does start fine it runs fine at all throttle positions and doesnt stall or anything. So why would a fuel pump sort of not work, and then work fine.

NOT a gear head..by a long shot...

A couple of folks have posted about the samething you did...and it turned out to be the fuel pump.
Good luck!

My truck is the same as yours and I don't have any "special" key. Had a spare made at Home Depot.

Sorry about your problems though, not sure what it could be, but you may have to take it in to a dealership and have them find out exactly what it is.

Thanks for the kind replies, I found the codes both p0581 and p0593 are both cruise control issues and have been there for a long while. I do not have sentry key (one of the only options I dont have , LOL)

I wasnt beating around the bush with the question just hoping it was an easy fix like maybe something was dirty, or clogged, or something less expensive than an entire fuel regulator/pump/filter/sending unit.

I drive 100 miles each way to work, so the fuel pump definitely gets a workout. You would think with all the technology, and R&D there is , you would be able to drive a $31,500 truck 100,000 miles without a major component failure.

And I cant believe me, and one other guy, are the only ones to have the problem. Ill look him and his posts up. I searched: wont start and and a few other items with no luck finding a problem similar to mine.

Thanks

Have you tried re-setting the PCM first? See if the codes come back... if they do, it might be your speed sensor. With 90K miles, it's very possible for it to go bad.

PCM…. the first thing I go for when anything starts acting funky on my truck…LOL
And so far…it’s cleared the issue every time!!
