MDS, there or not?

So the hemi has this super-funky cylinder deactivatino scheme to save gas mileage. I like it better than I do the hybrid technology, but I'm wondering if that is the source of the wild variation in gas mileage.

I can't tell when I'm running on four or eight cylinders. Supposedly, a normal foot would drive on four cylinders 45% of the time in town and as much as 80% of the time on the highway. This is how we get to 14 mpg town/18 mpg highway as our standard mpg.

What if your MDS doesn't activate? Is that why some people drive like normal humans and still get crap (12 mpg) gas mileage no matter what they do? How would you know if your MDS is not activating?

What is worse, can you make an aftermarket modification and convince your PCM to stop activating your MDS? Given that the PCM learns to match your driving style, there is alot of variability built into these things that might account for this wild variation in mpg.

Just my thoughts.

Our trucks DO NOT have the cylinder deactivation, just the cars.

Holy mackerel! I thought that we had the MDS! Where did I get that idea?

The salesman might have said it. I'll go look it up.

miles on the trip/gallons put in truck = mpg

I have the ST, there ain't no overhead computer.

I make a 300 mile trip every month to see the folks and so I fill up there. That gives me my highway mpg. Once it was 20 mpg, other times it has been 16 mpg.

MDS, there or not?

I believe it is only available in the Jeep, 300, Durango, and everything except the truck.

2006, the MDS might make it into the pickup. Well doesn't that just stink. It'll probably add 4mpg to these things. I wonder what it'll do to my trade in value?

I really meant uh...aftermarket mods on the Durango, yeah, thats what I meant.
