Impending cicada swarm for the Northeast

The 17 year cicada swarm along the Northeast is about to start. You probably have seen news stories about it. These big, red-eyed bugs are scary looking. I've been through one of these swarms and it is noisy and messy, but not dangerous. At their peak the combined noise of literally millions of them is so intense normal conversations are not possible outside. Inside with all the windows closed and the AC on you will still hear them. Trying to kill them is like shoveling sand against the tide. I found out killing them makes a bigger mess than just leaving them alone. The birds and other critters will have a feast, but the cicada numbers are staggering.

Has anyone seen or heard any of these cicadas yet?

We were at the Gettysburg battleground one year when their cycle hatched out. The sound was unreal and made looking over the battle field kink of eerie.

they are just NASTY.If you get them as bad as we did they were 3-4 in deep around the base of the trees and all over walls, fences.we had a hard time with our pool filter clogging up we had to put the cover on till it was over.cutting the grass was fun HAHA.the dead ones pile up aroung the base of the trees and the smell when you hit them with the lawn mower get ready to puke.noise/UNREAL you cant even talk outside its so loud. if you have a dog they will eat them the vet said it wont hurt them he said it good protein for them.i tryed to not let them eat them but they did anyway. GOOD LUCK.

"The sound was unreal" - still better than 'rap music' IMHO
