Saturday went out for coffee and breakfast. Truck started just fine. Stopped at the coffee shop started fine again. Stopped at to get breakfast and thats when trouble struck. Turned the key and nothing. didnt try to turn over at all. Lights were still bright horn was still loud. Pretty much ruled out the battery. I tried a couple more times to start it and nothing. Until i held the key in the start position for about 45 seconds and it started. It has also started just fine everytime since then. Any thought? Thanks

Mine started doing the same thing a few months ago. There is a relay UNDER the fuse panel (under the hood), that needed replaced. Take the cover off of the fuse panel, then locate the two squeeze tabs closest to the fender I believe. Once you rotate the fuse panel upwards, have a friend cycle the key to start, you can hear, and feel the relay click... Replace with new. It is a standard 1" square black/gray 4 prong relay.

Be aware also - if the computer thinks there isn't enough juice, it won't let it start.

I thought about the starter. It has hesitated to start here and there. But this time it didn't even try to start.

I've been having the same problem for the last couple of years - it's very random - and when it happens I turn the key back off, turn it to the on position, put my foot on the brake and then just go from gear to gear and put it back in park, open and close the door and then turn it off, wait a few second and most of the time it works.

I know it's a whole lotta crap I've been doing when it happens, it's most probably the battery, still got the factory battery and it's what.. almost 7 yrs old? LOL

If the relay seems to be ok I agree that a weak battery could be the cause. You can have the battery tested at any parts place.

It prolly does need a new battery too. It's the factory battery.

Word of caution about getting your battery tested...

If it's a sealed top battery there's no way around it, but if it can be opened, have them use a Hydrometer to test the battery.

Sears screwed me over and I lost 3 days of work and a total of almost 12 hours of my time because their stupid electronic tester was a piece of crap and said nothing was wrong with my battery. After the 3rd test I went to a neighbor's house (after paying for a 3rd recharge) and borrowed his Hydrometer and tested my battery and low and behold the first friggin cell was DEAD! FLOCKING DEAD!

I borrowed his hydrometer and went back to Sears right after that and got the Manager and the employee and had them run a test again and as usual it came back the same, after this I used the hydrometer and showed them - almost shoved it in the employee's face - calling him incompetent and was starting to go ballistic when the manager pulled me to the side and gave me a new battery for free and I got a letter 3 days later from Sears (the manager) and they appologized for all that happened.

Since that day I NEVER let a mechanic or anyone work on my truck without me around standing outside the yellow safety line or at least within view of who's doing the work and what they're doing.
