[email protected] Seagate Hard Drives!

I've never had one last very long. Just replaced ANOTHER one today! That makes two in less than a year. Grrrr! At least this one gave enough warning that I could get it backed up. Not a big fan of WD, either. The replacement is a Toshiba 1TB.

Considering the price of my first HDD, $55 isn't too bad. Based on that (213MB for $250), this one would have cost ~$1,170,000

I remember a Bill Gates quote: He was excited about a 300MB drive for "only" $10,000! He also said 640KB of ram was "enough for anyone".

Haha yeah right on that one Gates lol.

We have a 2T standalone for pics and what not only use when needed doesn't stay hooked up all the time.

Good idea. We used to keep a backup drive in our voice mail systems, hooked up and running. That was when a 640MB drive was $350, dealer cost. One of our customers kept saying they had to force the boot when the voice mail was restarted. Turns out that 640MB Maxtor drive (the only brand that could stand running 24/7/5) had the platters separate from the hub! We ripped it open to find almost nothing left but metal shavings from the platters. After that, for all customers, we connected the back-up drive, told the BIOS it was there, ran the back-up, shut down the box, disconnected the drive, told the BIOS it wasn't there, an' started 'er back up.
