Cold Start Issues

Need some help. I've been having problems starting my truck when the weather is cold. The truck will turn over and will sputter but will take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes to start depending on how cold it is. If the weather is warm I have no issues at all starting the truck. I did a search and saw where there could be an issue with Spark Plugs, Shorty Wires, or a Crankshaft Pos. Sensor. After researching the Crankshaft Pos. Sensor it sounds like that may be my problem. Can anyone verify this and tell me what all is involved with replacing this sensor.

Thanks

Dustin, are there any trouble codes? There is a TSB about the throttle body "TSB 14-002-05 Inactive Throttle Body In Cold Ambient Temperatures". Have you cleaned the throttle body before? Maybe it needs a cleaning but not replacement.

I did take it off and clean it sometime last year but haven't since then. I first thought the issue may be because I had left the Power Wire on, so I have removed it. I was able to order a Crankshaft Position Sensor Yesterday from the dealer for $32, Which seems a little cheap, But I am hoping to get it put on this afternoon and see if that does the Trick. I will also pull the TB off and check to see if it is in need of another cleaning. Thanks Byrd.

Bet it's the spark plugs, and or the gap of them!

Jay, Think I should change the plugs while I am at it, just in case.

Mine was getting hard to start, over the weekend. Thought I had a set of plugs at the shop, but only had eight. Put them in yesterday, and this morning at 25 degrees, started like a champ. One of our members, pulled his plugs, re-gapped them at .035, and cured his starting problems.

Well I installed the Crankshaft position sensor on Wed night and had to wait on the plugs. Problem was still there after the new sensor was put in. Got the spark plugs Yesterday and installed new E3's. Problem Fixed. Now to pull off the TB and see how dirty it is. Thanks Jay and Hemibyrd.
