Sleet is falling here and the snow should start before long. I sure don't want a repeat of the 2009 mega ice storm we had.

Blizzard Warning Through Noon Wednesday
By National Weather Service
PADUCAH. KY -

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT... SNOW AND SLEET ARE QUICKLY DEVELOPING AND SPREADING NORTH. WIDESPREAD SNOW AND SLEET WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP AND MOVE NORTH ACROSS THE QUAD STATE REGION THROUGH 2 AM.

SOME LOCATIONS WILL ALSO HEAR SOME THUNDER...AND THESE AREAS WILL SEE INCREASED ACCUMULATIONS OF SLEET AND SNOW.

THE INCREASING COVERAGE AND INTENSITY WILL LEAD TO QUICKLY DETERIORATING ROAD CONDITIONS...AND COMBINED WITH WINDS GUSTING TO 35 TO 45 MPH...DRIVING WILL BECOME HAZARDOUS DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION IF TRAVELING...AND CONSIDER CHANGING YOUR TRAVEL PLANS.

A BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON WEDNESDAY.

SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 4 TO 8 INCHES ARE ANTICIPATED, WITH HIGHER AMOUNTS EXPECTED TOWARD THE OHIO AND WABASH RIVER COUNTIES. SLIGHTLY LOWER AMOUNTS ALONG A LINE FROM CALHOUN DOWN TO MAYFIELD AND MURRAY IN WESTERN KENTUCKY.

WINDS WILL BE FROM THE NORTHEAST BECOMING NORTH 15 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS 40 TO 45 MPH.

MIXED WINTRY PRECIPITATION WILL TRANSITION TO MAINLY SNOW OVERNIGHT...ESPECIALLY FROM MIDNIGHT ON...PERSISTING INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING BEFORE TAPERING OFF.

BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED. EXPECT TRAVEL TO BECOME VERY DIFFICULT. BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW COULD MAKE ROADS DIFFICULT TO NAVIGATE THROUGH MUCH OF THE DAY WEDNESDAY. WHITEOUT CONDITIONS MAY CREATE A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION FOR THOSE VENTURING OUTDOORS. BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW MAY CONTINUE INTO WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

OTHER IMPACTS: THE HEAVY WET SNOW AND STRONG WINDS MAY BRING DOWN SOME TREES AND POWER LINES. IN ADDITION...SHOVELING HEAVY WET SNOW HAS CAUSED HEART ATTACKS...BACK PROBLEMS...AND OTHER ISSUES IN PAST WINTER STORMS. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A BLIZZARD WARNING MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS AND POOR VISIBILITIES ARE LIKELY. THIS WILL LEAD TO WHITEOUT CONDITIONS...MAKING TRAVEL EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. DO NOT TRAVEL. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...HAVE A WINTER SURVIVAL KIT WITH YOU. IF YOU GET STRANDED...STAY WITH YOUR VEHICLE.

HIGH TODAY: 32 LOW TONIGHT: 20

SUNRISE TODAY: 8:05 AM

SUNSET TONIGHT: 5:27 PM

Snow, freezing rain, ice and strong winds will drive in. 5" to as much as 12" of snow will be possible with this system along with 1/4"-1/2" of ice to the south. so last night after getting home from Christmas dinner with Karla's mother I over stacked some firewood inside, so we have close to 2 weeks dry in the garage. I brought the ole snow plow truck out of the back yard and have it up in front yard next to main driveway ready to go. I broke out the generator, gassed and oiled and test ran it last night.

BUT here is the funny part ( okay not so funny) we have to have Karla at the hospital at 7am this morning for blood work then spend the rest of the day waiting for results and then she has her chemo treatment at 11am for about four hours, and the time for this silly storm is 5am till 7pm.

weatherman is calling for 2" an hour ! weeeeeeeee.

so I have already called Justahemi he lives just 2 miles from doc/hospital and IF he can get home from work today, he said we will stay with him tonight GOTTA LUV HTC ! ! !
so truck is all gassed up ready to go.
going be a FUN day for sure. funny thing is i am off till the 2nd so we would just stay home an dig out once it stops but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do!

oh and YES we are in the PURPLE!!

We might make it back up to 32. Roads out here are not so good. Small county, no ice or snow removal equipment, tree limbs everywhere...not that there weren't anyway from all the dead trees anyway. At least it isn't snowing anymore and no precipitation forecast until Friday. Don't think I'll be working outside this week.

We got about two inches of wet snow on top of the sleet that already had fallen. Other areas near here got as much as 7 inches of snow. The temperatures won't go up enough to melt this mess for a few days and folks are advised not to drive unless it is necessary. I'm staying put.
