I'm looking for a good portable generator probably in the 8-10kw size. I see the Generac's get pretty good reviews but I really like to hear what real people recommend.

I'll probably be using an interloc kit to feed my whole house.

Thanks, Mike

A fully automatic whole house Generac system running on natural gas would be my choice .

Steve (HemiPup) did a lot of research last year on generators. He should be able to help you some. "If" you have natural gas in your area that's the way to go. IMHO

Is that enough power?

That's what we have. Many times I've considered a "whole house" unit, but the $3K price is a lot to pay for less than one day/year.

On topic, I haven't seen any outstanding reviews for any of them.

This thread jinxed us! We just had a 90 minute power outage! First one in months. Man, that's aggravating. We sure have gotten accustomed to A/C!

Hey Mike, as Rancher mentioned I did do some research about a year ago because I wanted to get something between 4k and 8k portable power generator. I ended up buying an ETQ 7250/8250 which was made in China. I only paid $600.00 plus for it through Amazon.com and when it finally arrived it was broken. You can read about that story here and the repairs I had to make here.

I did have to use it a couple of months ago when we lost power for 3 full days and it did work flawlessly, so I'm thankful for that.

If I had to do it all over again I'd probably purchase on of the better Generac portables.
