2012 Durango R/T Questions.

Hey guys I came from the Dakota Durango forums, and couldn't get the answers I wanted. Questions are as follows, but first I am looking to crack 13's with this big pig

WHo makes a a good converter for the 6 speed auto?

Has anyone cracked 13's with a tune, bolt ons, and without touching the internals?

What is the best place to find Hemi parts like intake manifolds, Intakes, Headers?

Weak links/ downfalls of the hemi?

Thanks guys!

4th Gen guys should be able to answer your questions. But I can tell you it most certainly get into the 13's with very little work...

By 2012, 9 years after the release of the new generation Hemi, a lot of the "problems" had been worked out.

MDS lifters do sometimes fail and if you ever do a cam swap it's recommended to discard those for non-MDS and tune it out.

I will say that with the VVT hemis there is the possibility that they could develop cam phaser issues as seen with ford 5.4 triton engines although I haven't heard of any issues yet. It shouldn't hurt the engine any but the power will suffer if one goes bad. They have a physical limit to how far they can change timing(something like 18 degrees but don't quote me on that) as a safeguard to keep the pistons from chasing valves closed.

Check out this website for performance parts: Moes Performance Double check with them when ordering but I think most of the Cherokee parts should fit a Durango also

Keep us posted with build progress! We love pictures

Moesperformance will have all the hop ups you can throw at it. very little real issues are showing currently on the 4th gen trucks motor wise so that's good at least lol. with basic bolt ons you can easily see low 13s maybe even 12s get a little crazier like cam and heads and what not on a good good night hit high 11s.

first things for the hemi emgine to really liven it up are:

longtubes
4:56 gears(the first mod I would suggest on a big truck/suv)
87 mm taper bore tb
intake
converter
tuner and a custom tune. (there is more there than most canned tunes have)(I am a cmr tuner for diablo handhelds if you need tuning)

Edge or Circle D would be my go to for the converter. Personally I have an Edge 2800 tq converter. I went with Edge because it's what Matt at Moes recommended and he hasn't steered me wrong yet.

Awesome guys great information! I should add as well it's awd so it's heavy. Still think we can knock down 13's with bolt ons and a stall?
