Read the instructions!

Built a fairly high dollar, big inch, SBC for a customer. He picked it up, and returned two days later, and said it had no oil pressure. Asked him all the normal questions for oil pressure related problems, and his answers were all good. He had the vehicle on a trailer with him. I went outside, pulled the distributor, and put an electric drill with a oil priming rod on it into the oil pump. Turned it on, and had eighty pounds oil pressure.

1. oil pump was good
2. Oil pump drive rod engaged properly
3. correct amount of oil
4, oil filter, and bypass good
5. oil pressure gauger working properly
6. No leaks

So, what was the problem?

Yep. Installed it the way it came out of the box. Didn't check to see if the slip collar was set properly to engage the oil pump drive. Paid me over 10k for the motor, and because he didn't read the instructions, shortened the life of his motor considerably!
