strange engine/exhaust note

I just purchased a 2006 Durango w/Hemi. I have put about 1000 miles on it and just noticed a strange exhaust note.

When I go from maintaining a constant speed to slight acceleration (basically no pressure on the throttle to light pressure on the throttle) it almost sounds as though the engine is pinging. It is like a strange resonance.

Any ideas?

That is my first thought, but I was not sure so I thought I would throw the question out to the brain trust.

Thanks for your input and helping to confirm my thinking.

What fuel are you running? 87 89 93 You purchased it used correct? may be previous owner had a tuner. The hemi does request 89 in the owners manual.

I have been running 87 with no problems. It does run a little better on the 89, but you really cannot tell. I also have run 91 (which is the highest I can get in Alaska) and have gotten the same results with both of my vehicles.

I did purchase the vehicle used. Had not thought about aftermarket products, but I guess that is a possibility.

As the manual recommends, I use 89 Octane gas. Earlier I mentioned that it sounded almost like pre-detonation, but it really sounds more like a strange resonance.

I am still inclined to to with the MDS. It is something I can deal with, just don't like unfamiliar noises in a car.

Try some injector clener then run the highest (90-93)gas you can get and see what it does from there. How many miles are on the truck? It might need a tune up...

When I purchased the truck, the dealer told me that they had just performed a 60K service on it. It had just shy of 60K on it at that point.

I will try the injector cleaner, but I do want to believe that it is MDS.
