Steering rack leaking

I just got back from the dealer because my steering rack is leaking on both sides. The tech. told me that there is alot of people coming in with the same problem. The part is on back-order so check yours out and let them replace yours if it's leaking too. I see a possible TSB coming out on this one. Mine only has 21000 miles on it.

Are you sure it's the rack and not just the hose? I know they are replacing a LOT of hoses due to a faulty band clamp design/placement.

LETS SEE.....TRANSMISSION REPLACED (under warranty) at 29k. brake shudder at 31k, now the steering rack is leaking. Warranty has expired. Talked to the dealership. They want a hundred just to tell me what I already know. Said it wasn't covered under the drivetrain warranty, and at 42k, my warranty is over. Service Mgr. told me I made a mistake by not buying the extended warranty. Says ALL the employees that work at the dealership have it on their own vehicles. Some testament to the quality of parts and workmanship...huh!!! Leaks appear at both fittings on the rack. Added my own additional hose clamp on the return line, which was also leaking. My son has an 04 2500 that has the beginnings of the same problem. In 35 years of vehicle ownership, I have never had to replace a steering system......Guess its time to trade.

That's a heck of a first post here 04hemilemon - sorry to hear of all the problems you have had with your truck.
I can say this about that however... your experiences are not the norm with these trucks.
If you do in fact trade, take a look at Dodge before going elsewhere!!

There's a gal in the office here and her rack is leakin. I am going to tell her to "put a clamp on it". I guess she will need two clamps.

Haven't heard from "04hemilemon" in over three weeks... wonder if his post was just a drive-by bitching or he actually traded the truck
