Pinion Nut Loosens Recall

About two months ago I received a letter from Chrysler about my 2011 Ram 1500 that stated there was a recall to replace/repair the pinion nut as there was a problem with them loosening. At that time they said they'd send out another recall letter once parts were available for the dealers to make the needed repairs. Since some time had gone by I called Chrysler to see what was going on and they still had no idea when parts would be available for the dealers to make the repairs. How long does it take to get a supplier to make the needed kits to replace the pinion nuts? I assume the newer trucks are still using the same rear ends and don't have the problem so why can't those parts be used? Makes no sense to me but I'll definitely be upset if my driveshaft drops out because they can't come up with the needed parts for such a simple repair!

It is sad as the fix is the loktite not the nut itself. Really all that they need to do is remove the nut and re-install it with loktite. Of course this isn't about just that, but the labor that is required to do it properly which includes removing the wheels and brakes to get the proper torque readings.

Even when they start to get the parts my dealer said I will get another notice from Chrysler informing me that parts are available then I have to call the dealer to make an appointment! It will probably be another 2 months just to get in to get it done as this affects a lot of trucks.

They certainly aren't handling this very well. Especially for it to be such a potentially major issue.

My pinion flange actually came off on my '09 and pretzled the driveshaft into 2 pieces in Nov. 2011, Thanksgiving week.

Dealer wanted to know if I'd been racing it.

Repaired under warranty, but they didn't clean the axle grease off the underside of the truck at all, Grrrrr!

Welcome to the forum Racer! And wow...thats not a good situation. I am praying that doesn't happen. Going to cost Chrysler a lot more if these things start letting go.

2 months later....

2 months after receiving the notice a recall was forthcoming and still no further notification. Guess Chrysler doesn't consider the issue important enough to address it in a timely manner!
