P2314 DODGE - Ignition Coil Secondary Number 5 Circuit Condition

Possible causes
- Faulty spark plug or coil boot
- Faulty Ignition Coil 5
- Ignition Coil 5 harness is open or shorted
- Ignition Coil 5 circuit poor electrical connection

P2314 DODGE Description
The ignition system is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on all engines. Each cylinder is equipped with 1 dual-output coil. Meaning one coil mounts directly over one of the dual spark plugs for 1 high-voltage output.

Battery voltage is supplied to all of the ignition coils positive terminals from the ASD relay. If the PCM does not see a signal from the crankshaft and camshaft sensors (indicating the ignition key is ON but the engine is not running), it will shut down the ASD circuit.

Base ignition timing is not adjustable. By controlling the coil ground circuits, the PCM is able to set the base timing and adjust the ignition timing advance. This is done to meet changing engine operating conditions.

The PCM adjusts ignition timing based on inputs it receives from:
- The engine coolant temperature sensor
- The crankshaft position sensor (engine speed)
- The camshaft position sensor (crankshaft position)
- The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor
- The throttle position sensor
- Transmission gear selection

P2308 DODGE - Ignition Coil Secondary Number 3 Circuit Condition

Possible causes
- Faulty spark plug or coil boot
- Faulty Ignition Coil 3
- Ignition Coil 3 harness is open or shorted
- Ignition Coil 3 circuit poor electrical connection

Check the connection of the wires. You could have a loose connection. Also check the connection to the coil pack.

How is the truck running?

Another thing you might try if all the other ideas don't fix the problem is move the wire on the 3 and 5 to another good location and recheck....if still bad maybe try changing the coil pack to another location and check......other than that I am out of ideas.

if nothing i suggested help contact charged392.

well i went out and checked all the connections. seems like one of the wires going from the coil pack to the secondary plug clicked on a little tighter. cleared the codes and started the truck up. after letting it idle for a few minutes i turned it off and checked the codes again. the only one that popped up was an 02 sensor code that i knew about (im missing an 02 sensor, bank 2 #2) but no spark plug codes. hopefully that fixed the problem. thanks!

If they come back identify which cylinder is tossing the code and then move the entire coil and wire as an assembly to another hole if it comes up on the hole it's likely the coil is taking a poop

Cruel1 is on the money with the suggestions keep us informed
