2007 Hemi blown motor

I haven't been on here in a LONG time. Too long

Short back story. I bought the truck new in 2007. I was 20 years old with no credit so the truck was bought under my dad's name. In 2010 I bought a cummins and my dad drove the hemi. Then my sister totalled her mustang so she drove it for a while. At some point in 2011 or early 2012 the truck was sold to a family friend. Somehow he lost the title and never registered it in the 2 or 3 years that he daily drove the truck.

I got a call a few weeks ago and the dude needed cash and wanted to sell the truck back to me. He claimed the motor was locked up. Truck is in sad shape compared to the truck I sold him but I think I got a good deal on it. So, since the title was never transferred, My dad is the original and current owner.

So, first thing I notice is the ECM is completely covered in oil. Looks like someone filled the connectors with oil and then plugged them back in. All 4 are this bad.

Second thing I notice, no major oil leaks anywhere, no thrown rods or anything. Actually fairly clean under the hood.

Third, I put a socket on the crank and it definitely feels locked up. Won't budge.

My question is: Since the truck still belongs to the original owner with no sign of owner transfer, can this be covered under the factory lifetime power train warranty???

Truck has had programmers (Edge, Super chips and Diablo at various points of my ownership). Still has my custom dual exhaust and headers, along with aftermarket intake. Are these mods going to void the warranty? Is this fight worth fighting? I haven't talked to the dealer yet. I wanted to see if anyone has tried to warranty a locked up motor.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Hopefully the ecm is either flashed back to factory or flashable. The oil soaked ecm might be interesting to deal with. Good luck!

It's goin to be tricky but hey it's worth a shot.

All the mods have to be proved that they caused the issue
Exhaust and intake won't hurt the motor so basically of there's oil in it I would say your good. The only thing is they may ask for oil change records that will be an issue for sure given the owners it's had

Don't give them a chance to charge you something that you didn't want to get charged for. Dealerships can be sneaky.......

I was doing some reading and some say that oil isn't conductive so the computer should be fine. All electrical items seem to be working.

Can they tell when a programmer was last used? I sold the last programmer I had on it in aug of 2010. That seems proof enough right there that the programmer didn't hurt the motor.

I still have all my reciepts from Aug 2007 until about aug 2010. I took great care of that truck. It's sad to see it like this now

Another thing I noticed is that the rear rotors are worn completely through. The caliper cut all the way through the rotor and now it is in 2 pieces. Wow

Pretty much like everyone saying, take it to them and see, it is worth the shot. They are a dealership so just make sure you are on top of it. With a locked motor they are probably going to really look into it. I see no reason for a truck of that age to have a locked motor other than poor piss lack of maintenance and abuse. Good Luck get it towed to the dealership and let us know how it goes.

Hi Starchief_59,

You never mentioned the mileage. I know that I have seen several posts on this and other forums about the valve spring issues. I wonder if they broke a valve spring and just kept driving, or trying to drive it. You can take the valve covers of and should be able to tell if one of the valve springs is broke.
Just an idea.
Good luck getting it sorted,

preachp

Did you take the spark plugs out when this was performed? If not you are doing to have a hell of a time trying to turn it over . If not try it again with all the spark plugs out.
