Upgrades to keep the 545rfe happy

Ok so I've been reading a few threads in here and a I have a few questions. I'm not looking at doing a fully built stage 3 trans. I don't have anywhere near the 600-800 hp most of you with your fancy boost and strokers my wife won't let me get so what are some basic things I can upgrade/do to keep my 150,000 trans happy? I have no idea if any previous owners have done anything to it, as far as I know it's probably bone stock. I already am running a Sonnex Line Pressure Booster (love it), just did a fresh fluid flush, and I'm using an Edge 2800 Converter. Planning on 4.56 install this winter/next spring. I know about not wot downshifting into 2nd prime, and not shifting into 4 at full throttle racing. I know it is possibly a matter of time until something decides to let go, but as of now, I have never had any slipping of weird issues. If I do blow it at some point, no biggie, I'll just build it stronger. I'll cross that bridge when it happens. How much power do people add until it takes a dump?

Yep, I'll click OD off then slowly roll into the throttle as necessary. From 40 I'll downshift into 2 manually, and wait for the second kickdown before I hammer it.

I wish you luck, but I lost faith in the 545 a long time ago...

I totally understand, my only point is I haven't pushed any major power through it yet, and I was able to get my trans tuning thanks to you guys and the pcm swap. I'm not saying a trans swap isn't out of the picture, just that I would like to try to keep the old one alive for as long as possible. Especially since I don't have any issues yet

Put 4.56 gears at the top of your list. They will help take some of the load off the trans as well as give the truck some added performance and better towing capabilities.

My front gears shipped today, found a Forum deal a few weeks ago. I'm waiting to order my front gears, and then tear into them soon

--------------------------------------
- perhaps the most overlooked mod that actually will add some longevity to the anemic and problem-ridden 545RFE stock POS...

If it blows for your power level a simple red alto rebuild kit will add a little more holding power for you. The gears will be the best thing you do though
