general gearing information needed

Good evening folks. Ive been lurking a searching some time but haven't seen anything related exactly to this. (I just could have easily not used the correct key wording in my search).

I currently have 3.92 gears in my truck. Ive noticed with the 268 cam, it likes making power up top mostly. I'm really missing having at least a little more low end. Would 4.56's make up for this loss in the way the trucks "feels" at lower RPMs? Or is it an "it is what it is" type scenario because of the cam I've chosen?

I also considered getting a more aggressive converter. I have the entry level circle D currently.

Thanks in advance!

For folks to give you specific information we need to have specific information. What year model truck do you have? Typically using a 268 cam you need to beable to spin everything up so you can use the upper end as you have stated. Deep gears, high stall converter and the addition of numerous mods that help the engine to make power in the upper range. Good luck..

I suppose leaving everyone to guess my platform doesn't help. haha, sorry for leaving out the important stuff.

2004 regular cab, short box, 2WD with 5.7 Hemi.

Is there a preferred brand/vendor for the 4.56 setup here on the forum?

What stall is your circle D? A set of long tube headers,4.56 and a 3000 to 3200 stall will wake that 268 right up. I run a 268 in my QC along with a 3400 stall and 4.56. She is a fun ride on the street.

Stay away from yukon, Motive, AAM, US gear, Nitro.

You will have a better performing truck with a stock motor and 4.56's
