converting a 4x2 to a 4x4???

Im not entirely certain if this is possible or how much it would cost, so I came here.

I have an 06 QC 4x2 and considering I live in the chicago land area(in a cul de sac) I dont like the idea of being stuck with 100 yards of 2-3 foot snow drifts....

I dont have the money right now, but come next winter I might have enough to try and do this conversion(if its possible).

Does anybody know how to do this or how much it might cost??

converting a 4x2 to a 4x4???

Even if it were possible... doubt it would be cost effective. I'm sure someone with more knowledge on this will be around shortly!

converting a 4x2 to a 4x4???

The tail housing on our trannys can be changed out from the 2x4 version to the 4x4 transfer case, but there's a whole lot of other things that have to be changed too. I agree it probably wouldn't be cost effective.

The cheapest and easiest way to accomplish this would be to go to the local junk yard and find a truck in the same year range as yours and ask them if you can "buy" the truck from them and take it to your garage with your truck and swap everything from the junker to yours and then give them your 2wd stuff and the rest of the junker back. It is possible to do all the mount holes are there. It is just the wiring that i wouldnt want to do. If you have two lifts and time it wouldnt be that bad if you could find a donor truck for ALL of the parts and pieces. I have though about doing this with my truck to put a 6 speed manual in it.

I think that unless you have a very well equiped garage, very good mechanical skills, and some help you shouldn't do it. You will probably be farther ahead trading for a 4 wheel drive truck.

agreed trade the truck in on a 4X4. now that is assuming your just wanting it for the snow. if you want to actually wheel the truck i would do a SAS. and run a 4 link or you could just do a leaf spring. but your talking about a bunch of fab work. I have a totaled 04 2wd ram that we are going to turn into a rock crawler.

it will end up with leaf springs on all 4 corners, the rear end will be moved forward about 2 feet, the cab will be cut off, the fenders will be dovetailed. the plan is 37 in militay tires, and will be riding on 1 ton axles out of a 3500 ram. and since this truck donated its hemi to a twin trubo duster project, we will be installing the 318 that the duster donated to the crawler project....

Not sure if this would help but you can give it a look:

I did a Google search and this is what came back:

Google Search for 4x2 to 4x4 2006 Dodge Ram 1500
