8 Speed 8HP70 Transmission Service

I am very curious what the owners of the 8PH70 transmission are going to do when it comes time to service this very sophisticated transmission?

I have read and heard that this is a Fill for Life Transmission. But in my opinion that is Hog Wash! This is the Real World not Wish Full Thinking Dream World.

So Far I have read the Plastic Pan and Filter are 1 unit.
The ZF Fluid is Ridiculously Expensive.

As for Service Intervals? Nothing!

Even though my Ram is new 458 miles on her... I'm trying to plan ahead.

I have seen the AT pan of many transmissions with only 40-50K miles on them, and I really do not believe any engineer who had seen what I have seen only within those miles, would even think of leaving that fluid in there for the life of those autos.

Any thoughts on the Service of this Transmission is appreciated.

Thanks SyN

I can't attest for Dodge, but my 03 Grand AM GT with the 3.4l ram air has a "fill for life" transmission. It's going on 260,000 miles and still shifts like day one. I was told as long as it doesn't leak there's nothing to worry about.

Surgicaltech: Thanks for your information. I have been told that as well.

This is my first NEW Auto and probably my Last! I just have a hard time swallowing the Fill for Life concept.

I guess I just have to adapt along to the change of technology and today parts and equipment are pretty incredible.

I only hope I have the same results as yourself. Thanks again!

I think maybe I was lucky, I don't know. But I do know that my 96 Grand AM GT took a crap about 150,000 and on that one you could change the fluid. Go figure!

I bet dodge will still try and sell you a flush at 30k they do this all the time make everyone think they are untouchable but when it hits the interval you will see I bet. As of right now at work I have not had one come in with enough miles to even look into it.

Thanks Charged for your thoughts. If you hear anything will ya post back? The ram only has 560 miles on her. So I have plenty of time to research and find out what ZF recommends.
