727/A58 transmissions

I got to reading a little about this on another site and I started searching for what it would take to install a A58 trans in our trucks. First I couldn't find any adaptors which I thought was strange since there are plenty for GM transmissions. Then I got to reading a little and found that the 727 will simply bolt to a 3g using a spacer plate to give the TC some needed clearance and a flex plate to mount the TC and a mini starter. I'm not recommending xvmotors but using them as a product example. PATC also has a kit.

From what I understand the 727/A58 is much stronger than our 545 trans and the A58 trans has a lockup TC and overdrive that can be supported using either vacum or an electric kit and doesn't need a computer to drive it..

Anyone have any knowledge they care to share about this?

Thanks,

For serious power not for the street........

Turbo 400 and an engine stand alone computer. You can get any configuration turbo 400 you might need. The only answer is to get rid of the oem computer.

Or for the street....... Sharadon Stage III, IV trans.

A 727 with an o/d tailshaft unit can take upwards of 3000 hp engine works is running a built 727 with o/d that he uses on te long end and it holds the power perfectly now for street driving not having the lockup in the 727 is ok for city highway I would avoid but he has also driven the entire dragweek event without a single issue to the motor or trans just high rpm driving one good thing with the 727 is you can add a trans brake and flash the factory computer to a manual truck and it will never know the diff

I have thought about going this route myself should anything happen tithe Sharadon trans it is an easy .5 shaved in the quarter the gearing is way diff and the trans brake would open a huge door

You should call MSP and speak with Martin Saine, he has been doing this and other versions for big performance.

MSP and A&A do my transmission work, i was having MSP to do my brothers trans before sandy got to her and submarined it and get rid of the forever screwing up 545, but sandy fixed it first.

Yes, I'm going to have to get educated on the 518/727. It appears to be a tough durable trans that has a lockup TC and a overdrive that doesn't need a computer to run it. Dumping the need for a TCM might even help cleanup the Megasquirt install. When requiring a higher than stock performance from the 545 it seems like a constant stuggle to keep the transmission doing it's part and IMO not worth the effort especially when a simple proven solution is readily at hand. Inputs appreciated.

Plenty of options, even the other 727 variants like the 48 also work. Call Martin and he'll educate you , he pioneered the pieces that made a lot of trans shops

Sounds pretty good, 700+hp trans, OD, lockup TC and no computer.

Emailed Martin for his opinion on which transmission he recommended to replace our 545. Will post what I find.

Thanks,
