6spd to 8spd Upgrade possible?

Does anyone know if it's a fairly easy swap to change out the 6 spd auto to the 8 spd auto? Would you need a different ECU/PCM, or just a retune? Any info you can provide would be much appreciated.

Also, What is the designation of the 8spd in the 1500 series? I know the 6spd is the 65RFE.

Not easy at all. As I understand it the trans programming is actually in the trans case somewhere in the new 8HP's (truck is 8HP70, diesels and Hellcats 8HP90).

It's very easy. Your truck will have a different serial # and keys and you can choose another color too!

That is not a possibility sorry. You will be spending a ton of money if it's even possible to do at all to make it work. The 8speed is internally programmed just like a Beamer is. Don't get me wrong it would be cool but for the money I would save for something else.

Thanks for the info. Internally programmed = not easily doable. I'll stay happy with my 65RFE.

I know nothing about this transmission, but being "Internally programmed" wouldn't that mean self contained? Does the trans have a separate module? Would need to look over the pin-out to see what inputs are needed. If you are serious then do the research to see what needs to be done before deciding it's a no go... my 2 cents..

There's a ton more to it. The controller needs a lot of inputs from the pcm to even function or it will limp mode out. This is one setup that will need to be mated to a pcm setuo for it. If you want an 8 speed but the truck it's in.

Kinda like a transgender. If it was born an 8 speed, everything works OK, but if you start changing over, things don't work like they supposed to.
