545 output seal replacement

When I took my truck in to the dealer to have the airbag recall completed, they did a complete inspection of the truck. The one thing they found that I'm not sure I can do myself is the rear output shaft seal on the transmission.

Is that something that I can replace myself without pulling the transmission out? I know I have to drop the driveshaft. It doesn't appear to be a bad leak because it's not wet around there but you can certainly tell it has leaked because it's extremely dirty, sorta like if the pinion seal was leaking.

OK, so it is that simple then. Cool! I really wasn't sure. Now I have to find the seal. Was looking on Autozone.com since I was pricing out the gear oil change and they didn't list anything for it. So on to more searching.

Finally I take my truck into the dealership next Friday to have the passenger airbag recall done. It has sure taken a long time for my part to come in. Told it takes about 1 1/2 hours to complete the replacement. I told them under no circumstances are they to hook up to the PCM.

I think you will find there is often a break in communications between the service writer and the mechanic. I wish you luck..

Ha, ha, love it. I also have a protective cover on the OBDII port that is red in color, as you can see in the photo. I still told them to leave the PCM alone.
