I have a 2003 sb with 4:56 gears & 3500 stall. The tranny down-shifted on me the other day, then free-wheeled in "D". I still had 1st & 2nd gears, but nothing after that. This tranny has been rebuild 4 times by a Hi-po shop in Buffalo. I have spent over $4500 on tranny work over the past 3 years. Only light racing on weekend. Has anybody else had such bad luck? I'm getting ready to ditch the truck because of the constant tranny failure. I want to run nitrous but I'm afraid it will blow the first run.

I have the ATS built tranny on my truck. It is putting 488Hp to the wheels and I have not had a problem yet. I've had the ATS for about 5 months now.

First of the bad luck part I know where your coming from I have just waisted my tenth trans in under 1.5yrs and I'm just now buying a stage 3 sharadon trans here's he kicker you have a 2003 which presents some tuning issues there but other than that I don't know what mods you have but anything more than an intake and gears you have to drive it diff

What I have read online is basically if you boost like I am or spray nitrous if you make the trans downshift into any of the gears causing a 2c or 4c shift the trans can't hold it worth a **** a flaw in the 545rfe programming from factory so basically if you add alot of power if you want longevity on the trans only go wide open from a stand still or beginning of second gear if it downshifts it will slip and burn the clutches up faster all 10 of my trans went out because of a downshift racing various cars but I won't make that mistake anymore 4k later now with a shardon coming I'm not melting this thing

Couple of things I believe are important with our trucks is not to down shift or play with the OD activated. And to raise the Line Pressure especially if the MAP sensor signal is being manipulated. Good luck...

Thanks for the response. Not much more done to the truck except SC programming and short tube headers. I really don't know how to drive it any differently...I don't beat on it & most drive the interstate. My wife would go nuts if she knew how much I've spent fixing this thing!!!
