4.56 ring gear too big (help)

Hey yall. I have a 08 dodge ram 1500 5.7

I just bought a ring and pinion gear to change it to 4.56. However I'm trying to install the pin that goes between the spiders and the ring gear is sticking out too much. I have checked all part numbers and they all match up. Any help would be appreciated

Assuming the 08 rear end is same as 03-06 axles you often need to grind a notch in the ring or pin.. i think the DDT carrier is the only carrier notching isn't necessary. Time to research...

DDT with the Motive components fit perfectly and function flawlessly

Thanks Red. I contacted my tuner and he said grind it. I have a mill at the shop so it came out nice

I did a few pulls today. The break in from the manufacturer was really light it seemed. Drive 10 miles let it cool down for 30 mins. 2-3 times. I did that yesterday.

Today I drove for 8 miles jumped out and put an ir temp gauge on it. 145F was the hottest spot. I figured it was time to do some pulls. Man what a difference. I am very pleased with the swap. I did notice from 60-70 mph deceleration that there was a slight whine. I'm going to drive it for a bit then do a oil change and see how it looks.

Overall very happy with the turn out

A procedure I've never seen in print and seldom mentioned is when installing the pinion gear while torquing the nut. Take a large drift or long 1/2" extension and hit the pinion head a couple times with a 1lb shop hammer. If this isn't done the pinion nut will need to be retorqued after breakin..

So you think all the gears settled and the backlash needs to be tightened? Would make sense for the whine

If the pinion wasn't seated odds are the nut is nolonger torqued to spec after a heat cycle or two. Let us know what you find..

It’s not uncommon to hear a whine on a 4.56 gear at some point in the range. Mine with the three sets I had did it all at diff times. One set whined a touch around 85 another whined right around 60 of the gas and last set I had whined around 40-50 letting off. Develop noise I would not worry about at all but accel noise deff check that. The pinion nut can loosen up if not seated double check and make sure it is still snug. I just use a lot of red loctite on mine no peening them over just Incase I need to remove. Deff give the pinion a few taps with a center punch when torque to make sure it’s all seated in
