Has any one swapped rear ends from a 2500 to a 1500? Can it be done and what is needed? Having problems with the differential in my 04 1500. 3.92 gears lsd. Any suggestions? Want to keep my cost down. Rebuilds for the 1500 quoted at
$1700. Junk yard rears if i can locate one have been any where between $800 to 1200 depending on miles.

I don't know anyone having done this, but viper rearend swaps have been done <$2000. Personally I think a salvage yard swap using a 1500 axle would be the cheapest. Assuming you have a damaged housing, otherwise rebuilding your old axle would cost the least. I have even seen damaged rear housings patched together using replacement bearing caps. Need more information about what problems you have.

Then depending on what gear ratio is in the 2500 rear end, you'd have to pay to have the gears swapped. Unless your'e very adept at doing that kind of thing. Sounds like to me it would be more money than doing up another 1500 differential with all the right goodies. Besides, Unless you're putting down 600 rwhp I really don't see a need for a 2500 rear differential
