16 8 speed problems?

Are these transmissions having issues? My buddy has 7k on his first hemi ram ever and dealer has it for 2-3 weeks for some valve issue he said but couldnt remember exactly what they told him other than part is backordered two to three weeks. He says last Dodge he is buying. Thought these were supposed to be the new big thing. They are the ZF like the Challys etc right?

Yes. He is. But his explorer just crapped out the transmission at 12k this year too. And he drives like a grandma. So he says hes getting a Tundra next time. Im just surprised. I thought these transmissions were supp to be the best. Just curious if this is a big issue. With the part being backordered three weeks seems like a common issue or the first one ever. Lol

Garage
Backordered means it's not common and they don't have a demand so nothing was made to supply it that's why it's taking so long to get it. I have heard nothing with the 8 speeds yet

Lightbulb

All of the current tech stuff indicates that these new ZF automatics are excellent transmissions - I don't have one but I can say that the older German made manual ZF's used in the transaxle road racing super cars of the late 60's and 70's were bullet proof and often the most dependable component of the entire vehicle.

I've been wondering how tough these new transmissions are myself. Been looking at some new ones.
