Subs stopped working!!

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY PHONE KEPT RINGING SO I HAD TO KEEP TURNING MY VOLUME DOWN,, THEN WHEN I TRUNED IT BACK UP,,, NO SUBS!! I FIGURED THAT MY 11 YO AMP FINALY **** THE BED SO I WENT TO BEST BUY AND BOUGHT A NEW ONE.. HOOKED IT UP IN THE PARKING LOT AND STILL NOTHING! SO THIS MORNING I TOOK OUT MY KENWOOD HEADUNIT AND RAN NEW RCA'S STAIGHT FROM THE BACK OF THE RADIO TO THE AMP AND NOTHING... THEN I PLUGED THE RCA'S TO THE RCA'S THAT ARE LABLED FRONT AND NOTHING!! EVERY THING HAS POWER AND ALL THE FUSE'S ARE GOOD. ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGESTION??

Subs stopped working!!

Check yours grounds and clean your battery terminals if you haven't already. My amp died on the way home last night, so i'm in the same boat..

battery terminals are clean and all the grounds are good... im starting to think it is the radio... but its brand new... well a year old.

Subs stopped working!!

To test the subs coil use a AA battery and connect the terminals + & - to the + & - from the subs, the cone should move, a 9 volt battery is good to, a multi meter is even better

thanks sppb, just tryed it out and got nothing... this is just strange to me, i have heard blown subs and something still comes out of them but have never seen subs just stop working....

Sorry to year that, but look at the good side, now you can try new ones
Are you running 2 subs, and are they both dead ?

new ones are always good! but yea they are both dead... thats why im dumbfounded.....

Did you took them of the enclosure and check the connections?
Strange that both are dead at the same time, but it could have been a "spike" from the amp

the amp was old it was a mtx sho thunder. i took them out of the enclosure and did your AA battery thing and got nothing...

Subs stopped working!!

question is were the subs distored under high volume?? Damage to a voicecoil can happen when you have distorted subs, Ive burnt voicecoils out when one went the amp spiked and blew the other one. The amp turns on! Indicator is on, have the speakers disconnected at the amp, then to see if you have a wire from the subs to the amp grounded the amp will go into protect mode and will not play anything, see if you are getting voltage remember audio is a.c. from the amp speaker output, maybee if the subs are bridged the amp has finally had enough try switching back to stereo, just some things to try. let me know!!!
