Radar Detectors

Does anyone have any opinions about radar detectors? What brand or model is good, which one has failed them, features or one that has good range with less false positives? Add to this, a detector that warns to fast radar guns and doesn't cost a small fortune. As most of you know we are constantly back and forth between AZ and CO. A few weeks between here and there keeps us on the road more now than we have ever experienced before. I am not one to go out and break land speed records. Nor am I one to set the needle exactly on the posted limit unless the road is questionable. Seven over is my limit and I get nervous going over that much. Five is my norm. It's just good to have that little device to give you that "Heads-Up" before you enter the red zone. I've read comment after comment on A*****.com about how great and how bad each unit performs. I also did a power search on a couple search engines. To be brutally to the point, I believe there is some bias in this area. Imagine that! So now I come to you, HTC, for your opinions.

Cool

Bear in mind, most police and highway patrol departments, are now using Laser speed detection, which is instantaneous. Once they paint your windshield, or a portion of your vehicle, they have your speed reading at the same time the detector sounds off.

I with agree with Harley. They are also attempting to outlaw radar detectors here as "safety hazards".

When I was still in the business I used a Kustom Signal's ProLaser 4 and by the time your detector was going off I already had you clocked and locked. Then it was just a matter of a few minutes to issue the paperwork and I was off to find another violator.

I found that having a Radar Detector was very handy. I sold it to help pay for the speeding ticket.

Cool

1. Valentine
2. Escort
3. Beltronics
I listed them in order, starting with the best, my 2 cents worth. I have always had good service out of Beltronics top of the line units. They ALL work great until you are painted by Laser.

Thumbs up

Been using them since I built my first VERY CRUDE Heathkit model back in 1971.
I prefer the top models (which DO detect Laser) now made by Escort - which was originally Cincinnati Microwave Corporation.
You can go HIGHLY ILLEGAL (FCC No No ) with a jammer that transmits a dialed-in speed but this is NOT recommended.

Good Luck with your choice ,
