6 1/2 vs 6x9's

i have alredy bought them so this is just an informative question. but are 6x9 better than 6 1/2s? i was told by a consoltant from an stereo store that i would get better mids and highs with 6x9. the 6x9 have a lower peak and rms power, so whats the deal. also the 6 1/2s are componets the 6x9s are coaxial. any input is appreciated.

You will get better sound quality from components. I have 6 1/2" components in my doors and the tweeters in the dash, and use 5 1/4" coax as fillers behind the seat, I have a RC. Power to push is manufacturer specific. If I am wrong someone correct me. Nothing wrong with 6X9 coax.

I am and always have been a fan of the 6x9. I think the mid and tweet is better.

I was told by an installer at Circuit City that I would get better sound with the 6 1/2's then with 6x9's so I got the 6 1/2 components for the front and the 5 1/4 components for the rear and it sounded great. I think its really just personal preference.

all the speaker specs are on alpine type r. 100 watts rms for the 6x9 and 110 for the componets i know thats not a big difference but i wanted the componets up front. so it was worth the trouble to find the speaker adapters to make it all fit

I made my own adapters out of wood. I traced the stock speaker and cut that out then traced the replacement speaker and cut it out. Usually 1/2" plywood or MDF is sufficient.
