Hemis in the Hills

See the video  "A Gathering of great trucks and good people!"

All of you HEMI heads who are looking for adventure, look no further, you have found it!  We are rolling our HEMIs to the hills 26-29 August for a four night stay in a soul stirring place.  Helen Georgia, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is an Alpine styled town, located in the center of the southeastern United States.  Hosted by MrBigwood, this is an event you do not want to miss. Big fun for all who come is sure to ensue.

"What will we be doing once we are there?" you ask.  A riverside authentic southern style cookout is a given.  A mountain cruise to the lake and overlooking hills is a given...bring cameras.  Tubing the river will be a blast at three bucks a trip for several hours of cool summer fun as we float through the hills and township.  A poker game or two will likely happen.  A few visits to local taverns and pubs for singing and drinking with friends is a given.

Hells Bells...you can take horse drawn carriage rides night or day, go to the amusement park, play serious putt-putt golf, browse many awesome gift shops, eat all kinds of good food (the place has everything!) ,trout or bass fish right beside the hotel or several other nearby spots, go mountain biking (they have rentals where you are taken to the top of a big assed mountain hill trail, check the brakes and zippity-doo-dah down to the valley, see any of a dozen waterfalls in the area, race indoor all weather go-karts (we ain't skeered a no dang thunda stormz 'round here), rent kayaks, pan for gold in nearby streams (YES there IS gold in them thar hills...our country's first major GOLD RUSH happened just south of Helen in Dahlonega. Did you know that more gold was mined in North Georgia than was mined during the subsequent California Gold Rush of 1849?  These streams STILL yield gold!)
You can go see a live theatre stage play in town at a classic playhouse if you feel ritzy....again... too damned much to list here. Just prepare to have a blast!
This is about the PEOPLE who drive HEMI trucks having the time to get to know each other while soaking in the beauty of this place.

We will be staying at the riverside Helendorf Inn, which is centrally located in the city of Helen. There are twelve restaurants/taverns within two blocks of the hotel. Parking there is by permit only for guests so a space for those HEMIs is always assured.90% of all the city's attractions are within a two block radius of where we will be staying.

About the Helendorf...

The hotel clerk should be told that you are coming to the Hemi Truck Club run held August 26th through August 29th. If we get 20 rooms booked they will cut us a slight price break.  Normal rates are Fridays and Saturdays $109 for a riverfront room (highly recommended) or $84 for a standard room.  The standard has everything the river units do except the balcony (fridge, microwave, hair dryer, coffee maker, king or two double beds, cable HBO, fold out ironing board, etc.).  Sunday and Monday nights the rooms drop $20 each ($89 river and $64 standard).

For the big spenders or those who want to share a suite, these have hot tubs, wet bars and several other goodies in addition to the other rooms. They will set you back $179 Fri-Sat, and $159 for Sun-Mon.  These are pricey but sweeeeet!

The hotel has an indoor pool for all guests.  Bear in mind that you could book a standard for the first two nights and upgrade to the river for the last two when the rates drop if you are pinching pennies.  Regardless of which combination you choose, the hotel offers open air and covered riverside areas peppered with rocking chairs and grills for us to use to mingle on the premises 24 hours a day. They will also provide us with a hospitality room for any "official HEMI business" we may wish to discuss.

A sincere thought from MrBigwood....

As a side note, if you are willing to get in your trucks and drive to the hills after saving your money for this event, I must say this..... it is your vacation. You may stay ANYWHERE you wish there and still have fun and be a part of this. I am not trying to squeeze you into a box here. I am trying to get as many of us together as possible with minimal stress to distract you or decrease your enjoyment. I am staying at the Helendorf, and there I can help you with rates, carrying luggage, guarding beer coolers and trucks, but elsewhere it is out of my hands. The last thing I want to do is have somebody drive to this event only to have me tell them what they will be doing each day. Likely we will meet each day and decide , based on the weather and such, what we would like to do AFTER we each have had a chance to have cruised or walked around town and soaked in the sites.

There is really TOO MUCH TO DO to decide upon until you see it yourselves!
One thing is for sure...whether you want some quiet time or some group time it is entirely up to the participants. We will use the hotel for a hub of ideas as well as the HEMI launching pad for those head turning HEMI Truck Club Convoys!

Just knowing that I will be in this special place with my friends is hard to fathom. It should be incredible! No one who attends for one day or all four will feel left out here. There will be something for all who come. The place is magic at night and vibrant during the day. Stirs my senses just thinking about it! Do what makes YOU happy. If you don't, then it is your time and money wasted. I mean this from the bottom of my heart.... Hope to see a bunch of you there!!!  I will do my best to make this a special event for all who come!
