Heating up

Greetings America.

I've noticed when I'm climbing average size hills the needle on the temp gauge starts to rise, nothing drastic but creeps past the halfway mark.

Weather conditions are ordinary and the truck isn't under load when this starts to happen. Can drive all day on the flat and needle dont go beyond the halfway mark on the temp gauge.

79000 miles. I'm wondering if this is the start of the thermostat retiring or am I over reacting?

With the national speed limit at a max of 60MPH the truck seldom gets to breath deep.

Tui, you haven't added anything that would restrict the air flow have you? Something like a bug guard or an additional cooler?

Good morning Red from a wet but mild evening here.
Nothing added truck is disgracefully stock. Even keep the radiator clear of bugs using the air comp.
Maybe the coolant is breaking down?

Change your thermostat. It just might be sticking.

Since this is occurring while you are driving it would eliminate the fan clutch. So it is related to circulation and as Bill suggests the thermostat is most likely the culprit. Stock thermostat is 203F which is the middle of the guage.

Thermostat, gasket, air filter $32

freight $68

convert to NZ dollars $140

If I had purchased here it would have cost $250

Live long and prosper

How about coolant? I would think that would be readily available.
