Kinda confusing, watched an interview with the president of SRT and it was a phone q&a...caller asked if they plan on launching an automatic version of the viper? president said they couldn't find a trans that wouldn't get eaten up from the power of the viper engine. But now they're gonna offer the hellcat hemi in automatic and 6-speed...thoughts?

That 10 cylinder viper engine puts out more then 600 HP I believe.

the NAG1 they have in the 13 chargers is plenty strong for 600hp. theres companys now offering stage 6 NAG1 that can hold 1200 hp so i bet they went and did a few upgrades to them to hold.

Yes, but they're also not releasing exact numbers on output for this new hemi...just 600+. Also heard that SRT had an internal conflict due to this new challenger being more powerful than the flagship viper. Any who, just food for thought and my confusion after that interview...also exhaust cutouts from factory and some amazing engineering!

not so much cutouts but bypass vlaves like the vetts use on the mufflers.

Hi 04hemisportedt,

There is a ton of power left to be had in the Viper V-10. That engine when it was originally produced was so strong they had to detune it. It was over 800hp after LAmbo massaged the heads and with the original Lotus valve gear in it. It is a tree pulling monster.
Next on the 392 comment they should have started to build the 426. That engine was another monster. The problem with the original was not longevity it was keeping the thing tuned. When it was right IT WAS RIGHT! But most people could not get the tuning down on it, and it WAS fussy. With the advent of this electronic control this should have no longer been an issue.
I feel like there is some corporate oversight here that may be getting in the way more than the Viper engine getting over run by the hemi at this point.

I seem to remember hearing that Fiat was going to discontinue production of the viper as of this year anyway. Is that not true?
