Chrome valve cover install

David S. (MOPOWER1958)

This is a short rundown on what you will need to replace valve covers. All the sockets I used were 1/4 inch drive, you will need a short 10mm socket, a deep 8mm socket, and a medium depth 8mm socket, and about a 6 inch extension and ratchet, I used an air ratchet. First take off the air inlet hose, disconnect the inlet air sensor and crankcase vent hose. Remove the 2 - 10 mm bolts that hold the HEMI air plenum box. Now pull out and up to remove plenum. Next pull straight up on air filter box and remove as an assembly. On both sides disconnect wiring harness where it clips on valve cover studs, front and rear on passenger side and front on drivers side. On the top middle bolt on each side there is a small ground strap, remove the flat metal part from stud and the rest will come off with the bolt. Use the short 10 mm socket and loosen all 16 coil mounting bolts. They will stay in the coil if you unscrew them just enough to remove the coil from valve cover. Remove front coil and plug wire and lay towards the front on top of the intake. Keep the coil and corresponding wire together so as not to get firing order out of sequence. Remove 2nd coil and wire and lay on intake and repeat till all 8 coils and wires are layered out in consecutive order. Use the semi deep 8 mm socket to remove rear 2 bolts on each valve cover and the deep will fit the rest. Remove all bolts, Gently remove valve covers and transfer the large perimeter o-ring and 4 figure 8 o-rings to each new cover. The large o-ring will only fit one way as the spacing is different front to rear on the mounting bolts. Now reinstall new covers with the coil mounting perch closest to the intake. Tighten the bolts starting in the center to just snug and criss-cross tightening them. After that come back and torque to 96-120 inch lbs. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN, THEY DON'T HAVE TO BE GORILLA TIGHT AS THEY HAVE A METAL INSERT WHICH THE BOLT TORQUES AGAINST AND A RUBBER GROMMET AGAINST THE COVER. Now reattach the plug wires and coils( WIRES FIRST), wiring harness clips,2 ground wires, and air filter assembly.                      Mopower1958
